Thursday April 3, 2014 - The much hipped Governors’ conference in Kwale got underway with little activities as the Government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, snubbed the forum.
Senators, MCAs and Cabinet Secretaries boycotted the forum after President Uhuru Kenyatta incited them to do so, saying the conference was a waste of public resources, which his Jubilee Government is against.
Only the Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki was present at the conference.
However, Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, who is also the chair of the Governors’ Council, chose to be diplomatic about the Executive’s absence, saying they may have been affected by the absence of President Uhuru Kenyatta who is on a two-week official tour of Africa and Europe.
“We understand the President is out of the country on an official trip, the Deputy might not attend as he has serious work lined up ahead of him in the absence of the President”, said Rutto.
“The Cabinet Secretaries are busy explaining to Kenyans their Ministries’ achievement at the Cabinet Media briefing and therefore it is not a must they attend, we can always engage them in other inter-Government avenues”, he added.
