Man arrested with this in Taita Taveta … were they for witchcraft?

Tuesday 22nd April 2014 - A middle aged man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was found in possession of python skins in Taita Taveta.

Juma Musa Mrarwa was charged with being in possession of snake-skin worth Sh30, 000 without a permit from the Kenya Wildlife Service. He was arrested on April 20, 2014 at Mazeras together with others who were not before the court.

The court was told that his arrest came after KWS officers were tipped off by members of the public that the accused was looking for a potential buyer and so they posed as buyers and visited Mrarwa’s home where they negotiated the price before arresting him.

Appearing before Voi Senior Principal Magistrate, Mr. Samuel Wahome, the accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in jail or a Sh 2 million fine. He could not raise the fine and was taken to prison.

Wahome gave him 14 days to appeal the sentence if he was not satisfied with it.
